Leading with Wrists (Hitting)

What it is:

Hands/wrists initiate the twist/rotational movement, instead of the hips leading the rotation.

Why it matters:

Breaks the kinematic chain. Creates “arming the swing,” limiting power and consistency.

Good mechanics in this phase look like:

  • Hips twist first, trunk and arms follow.

  • Hands stay back until rotation naturally moves them.

How to address it:

  • Drills: “Hands back” dry swings, hip-lead med ball throws, delay hand-release drills.

  • Cues: “Hips first, hands last.”
