What it is:

When the pitcher rotates their front side (shoulder/hip) too early before foot plant.

Why it matters:

Causes loss of velocity and control; ball often sails arm-side and up.

Good mechanics in this phase look like:

  • Shoulders and hips stay closed until stride foot lands.

  • Rotation begins after a firm base is established.

How to address it:

  • Drills: Towel drill, stride-and-freeze drill.

  • Cues: “Stay closed,” “Front side strong.”
