Elbow Hike (Pitching)

What it is:

When the throwing elbow lifts excessively high during the arm path.

Why it matters:

Places extra stress on the shoulder and alters release consistency.

Good mechanics in this phase look like:

  • Elbow stays at or slightly below shoulder height in arm slot.

  • Smooth arm circle into release.

How to address it:

  • Drills: Arm-path shadow throws, connection ball drill.

  • Cues: “Level elbow,” “Smooth arm path.”
