Forearm Flyout (Pitching)

What it is:

When the forearm moves away from the body too early during the arm path. This is similar to "straight-arming" a pitch to early, or to too drastic a degree, in the delivery.

Why it matters:

Reduces efficiency, increases stress on the elbow/shoulder, and often causes loss of velocity.

Good mechanics in this phase look like:

  • Forearm stays connected to the body until trunk rotation pulls it through.

  • Smooth arm action in line with trunk rotation.

How to address it:

  • Drills: Connection ball drill, “stay tight” dry reps.

  • Cues: “Stay connected,” “Elbow leads, not forearm.”
