Uplift Capture now supports capturing in environments with no network connection. While we still recommend a network connection for best results, you can now perform the following actions in Capture without a connection:
Starting the Uplift Capture app
Starting a new session
Completing full camera setup and calibration
Complete and save a full capture session of multiple athletes
Since captures are processed in the cloud, no data (CSVs, web visualizer, or PDF reports) will be generated until both devices are reconnected to the internet and the videos are uploaded.
When to use offline capture
Offline capture is recommended in the following situations:
When there is no available Wi-Fi connection.
While the Uplift app can operate connected to a cellular network (LTE/5G), this connection is not reliable or predictable enough to be recommended.
When there are available Wi-Fi connections, but they're unreliable or devices are prone to switching between networks.
Devices connecting, disconnecting, or switching between networks during a Capture session can cause issues or cause devices to disconnect from each other. In this scenario, offline mode prevents these disruptions.
Instructions for using offline capture
Offline capture is enabled when the devices are disconnected from any available network.
1. Open the Uplift Capture app on each device while connected to a reliable network connection.Once the app loads and the Capture screen is displayed (as shown on the right), you can move onto the next step. |
|
2. Ensure each device's cellular data is disabled. To check this setting, swipe down from the upper right corner of the devices screen to display the iOS control center (image A) and then long press the network connection panel in the upper right to view all of your connection settings (image B)
Cellular Data should be set to "Off". If not, tap this icon to turn it off. (If your devices don't have a sim card, this will be off by default) |
|
3. Disconnect from Wi-Fi networks (but keep the Wi-Fi radio on). This can be a little confusing - but following these steps will put you in the right state.
1. Disable the Wi-Fi icon in the control center widget. You can do this by tapping the "Wi-Fi" icon in this panel until it is disabled (white), as illustrated in the image to the right: |
|
2. Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled in the phone's Settings. Go to the Settings app, select Wi-Fi, and make sure the Wi-Fi toggle at the top of the screen is on (green).
This ensures the Wi-Fi radio on the device can be used by Uplift Capture to pair and sync devices, but the phone will not try to connect to Wi-Fi networks it finds.
4. Continue using Uplift Capture as usual.Return to the Uplift Capture app on each device. You can now pair devices, select an assessment and athlete, and start capturing as usual.
5. Reconnect the devices to Wi-Fi to upload videos.**Very important** - Captures will not be processed and analyzed until they are uploaded to the cloud. Upon reaching a reliable Wi-Fi connection, reconnected both devices to the Wi-Fi network and leave the Uplift Capture apps open until Upload completes. |
Notes and considerations when capturing while offline
While you will be able to create new athletes, those athlete will not be created or updated in your account until your devices reconnect to the internet. If you create an athlete profile while offline and they athlete already exists in your account, when the device reconnects to the internet, the new athlete will be created with a "-1" added to the end of their name, so as not to conflict with the already-existing athlete.
Capture can still be interrupted if an internet connection is detected, but then drops in the middle of a session. In these cases, the session will need to be ended, and capturing restarted to continue. If you are in an environment with a spotty connection that keeps dropping, fully disconnecting from the network will prevent this situation. Just remember to reconnect later to upload the videos!
